Dear funders, on Monday June 22nd the first 25 sleeping bags will be sent to Lesvos! We keep raising money because the migration season might just have started.. summer time provides calmer seas and many more refugees are expected to arrive on Greek islands close to Turkey.
From an article in GlobalPost on June 18th: 'A Greek law aimed at preventing trafficking prohibits people from helping undocumented migrants. Buses and taxis are banned from taking the refugees to Mytilene even if they have the money to pay the fare.' This means that also children, women and elderly people have to walk 40 miles in the burning sun to the nearest camp when they arrive in Molyvos, Eftalou, Skala Sikaminea or Tsonia.

Since much more help is needed, please keep sharing crowdfunding sites when you are able to. Thank you and I will keep you posted on how the extra money (above € 500) from Refugees on Lesvos need Sleeping Bags will be spent on (non)food items for refugees in Lesvos.

This morning on Fbookpage Help for refugees in Molyvos: "It's a very hot day out there. So more important than ever: bring small mineral water, fruit, biscuits and maybe hats and caps to hand out if you pass any refugees walking towards Mytilini."
Today a total amount of € 795 has been raised - thank you very much! Inspired by the Refugees on Lesvos need Sleeping Bags-campaign a secondary school in the Netherlands will collect sleeping bags donated by the students. We are grateful for this initiative. Could this be an idea for a school or organization in your neighborhood?

Help for refugees in Molyvos is organising a Peaceful Protest Drive from Molyvos to Mytilene on Sunday the 14th of June.
Tomorrow Sunday the 14th of June there will be a convoy of cars driving to Mytilene in protest to the fact that refugees can not take the public transport or taxis to Mytilene and therefore have to walk. Please meet us at the parking area next to the school at 10.30am if you would like to join us. We will be picking up refugees along the way. People are joining us from all over the island. There is a loop hole in the law that forbids us to drive the refugees and we hope with this movement we will be able to get permission to do so.
